West Metro Medical Society is a physician led advocacy organization representing over 4,400 physicians in the west metro. We represent physicians practicing in Anoka, Carver, Hennepin, Scott and Western Dakota counties. We are the largest county medical society in Minnesota and have been in operation for over 150 years.
What We Do
West Metro Medical Society serves as your local voice on:
- health care legislation,
- public policy initiatives,
- public health initiatives, and
- scope of practice issues.
The initiative for second-hand smoke reduction and eventually the Freedom to Breathe Act was strongly influenced by the work of West Metro Medical Society physicians. Other current public health initiatives include obesity (specifically related to nutritional menu-labeling) and alcohol use by minors.
In addition, we offer the framework for setting Minnesota Medical Association policy in the best interest of physicians. It is our goal to engage physicians in a meaningful way and to help them advocate for the rights of practicing physicians and their patients.
* January 1, 2008 our name was changed from Hennepin Medical Society to more accurately reflect the geographic area of the Twin Cities that we represent. |
East Metro Medical Society (EMMS) is medicine’s local voice with a longstanding history of advocating for our physician members who are also members of the Minnesota Medical Association (MMA). We represent 1,500 physicians, medical residents and medical students who live or work in the eastern counties of Washington, Ramsey and eastern Dakota. We have been existence for nearly 140 years.
Our organization is member driven. We have a diverse board of directors representing all medical specialties. Our three councils, our Foundation, and our for-profit subsidiary are active, effective and provide opportunities for our members to become engaged in the current issues facing medicine.
What We Do
EMMS serves as your east metro voice on health care legislation, public policy, public health, and scope of practice issues. We offer the framework for setting MMA policy in the best interest of EMMS physicians. This is accomplished through the participation of 32 EMMS delegates in the MMA House of Delegates and the submission of resolutions at the MMA Annual Meeting. EMMS works toward resolving contracting hassles and informing our members during managed care conflicts. We serve as your advocate and liaison to the Legislature and Congress, state agencies, coalitions, and health-interest groups. We offer our members the frame work for getting involved with public and community health initiatives. |
